Worked example

A safer way to use the result

  1. 1Choose a monthly or rolling 90-day reporting period.
  2. 2Use one status definition for accepted work.
  3. 3Review results by trade, lead source and job type when there is enough data.
  4. 4Compare conversion with capacity and gross margin, not as an isolated target.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing quote dates and acceptance dates from different periods.
  • Counting verbal interest as an accepted quote.
  • Ignoring superseded or revised quote versions.
  • Tracking count conversion without comparing the value of work won.

Questions tradespeople ask

What is a good quote acceptance rate for trades?

There is no reliable universal benchmark. Job type, lead quality, capacity, price point and quoting method all affect the result. Track your own trend using a consistent definition.

Should declined and expired quotes stay in the calculation?

They normally remain in quotes sent. Keep a separate status for open quotes so the reporting period does not treat unresolved work as a final loss too early.

Why measure acceptance by value?

Winning several small jobs can produce a high count rate while losing the larger commercial opportunities. Value conversion reveals that difference.
