Benchmark methodology

Purpose
The benchmark is designed to describe how UK tradespeople capture jobs, calculate quotes, follow up opportunities and manage the administrative load. It is not designed to rank individual businesses or create unsupported performance standards.
Eligibility
Respondents must be 18 or over and currently work in or operate a UK trade business. One response should describe one business's current quoting workflow.
Data collected
The survey collects trade category, business-size band, UK region, quoting timing and volume, estimated acceptance and follow-up rates, admin hours, tools and commercial practices. It does not request names, emails, customer information, exact business addresses or quote documents.
Consent and withdrawal
Consent is recorded with the dataset version. Because the dataset is anonymous and contains no response-retrieval identifier, a response cannot normally be located and withdrawn after submission.
Cleaning rules
Duplicate response keys, automated submissions, impossible values and responses that do not meet eligibility rules will be excluded. Free text will be reviewed for accidental personal information before analysis.
Analysis
Findings will report counts, medians, ranges and percentages where justified. Trade, region and company-size comparisons will be published only when the group is large enough to reduce re-identification and unstable estimates.
Minimum reporting threshold
No subgroup finding will be published for fewer than 20 valid responses. Wider publication may require a higher threshold where the result could be misleading or identifying.
Limitations
The survey is voluntary and is not a probability sample of every UK trade business. Self-reported figures can contain recall error. The report will show the final sample, collection dates and limitations.
Publication rule
Qwotly will not publish benchmark findings, sample-size claims or trade rankings until genuine responses have been collected and the stated checks have been completed.
